Our Spanish wine dinner was a huge success!
Fiesta Time!
We transformed the Café into a candlelit Bodega,
complete with barrels, sombreros and of course Spanish music.
Guests arrived and were greeted with a glass of
sangria, followed by a glass of traditional Cava accompanied by a delicious amuse
bouche of Manchego on brioche with caramelized onion.
White Wines
With the
fiesta in full swing, the first wine was served, which was a sublime example of
an Albraino called Castrocelta 2010. Albarino is often described as Spain's answer to a Sauvignon Blanc with a slight flinty
finish.
This was
served with the:

The next wine was the iconic Bodegas
Rafael Palacios 'Louro do Bolo' Godello, Valdeorras, Spain. Rafael Palacios was
responsible for putting this grape variety on the international map. Godello is a native Spanish grape from Galicia in North-west Spain, and
is sometimes referred to as Spain's answer to Chardonnay. It was totally delicious,
quite weighty with lashings of stone fruit and a long-dry finish.
The next course to arrive was:

Red Wines
Served with: Adega
Guimaro - Mencia Joven 2011 £15.00/ btl
Another indigenous
Spanish variety, vibrant and fruity exploding with complexity !
Followed by:
Quixote
Pago Casa Blanco 2007 £20/ btl NA
This
wine was a rare treat from Castilla La Mancha,
Spain. It was a notch up from the Mencia in its weight and heaviness and acted
as a perfect match to the Pork kebab and Mushrooms stuffed with Fava Beans and
Herb Sauce
The next red, as it name suggest
was yet a further notch up in weightiness and robustness; the Fort Priorat
Selecion 2007 £20.00 /btl NA, from the iconic Priorat region. Priorat is one of two regions to qualify as DOCa, the
highest qualification level for a wine region according to Spanish wine
regulations, alongside Rioja DOCa. A truly remarkable wine, with captivating
aromas of dense red fruits with a savoury twist.
The final red was a ‘mystery wine’,
guests try to identify the region through process of elimination. Victoria
South nailed both the year and region- very impressive Victoria! Winning a
bottle of the Albarino wine to take home. The mystery wine was: 12 Volts 2007
from the island of Mallorca. This is a charming wine, with a distinctive strawberry
balsamic twist to it, both rustic and poised, everyone loved it.
Dessert
Tortits
Rellenas de Natilla
Lemon
Custard filled Crepes

Delicious unctuous sherry from
Jerez, bursting with character; aromas of vanilla, caramel and roasted almonds.
This is the first of many more
