BARE ROOT HEDGING

Lime Cross Nursery offer a range of bare-rooted hedging plants and now is the ideal time to plant them:

A hedge forms an attractive boundary and a secure screen around your home. Hedges reduce noise, improve privacy and act as a great way to attract wildlife, particularly nesting birds. Choose your plants carefully and consider whether you'd prefer a deciduous hedge for beautiful autumnal colour or an evergreen hedge to act as a year-round backdrop for showier plants and seasonal displays.  It's also worth considering whether you'd prefer a flowering, fruiting or berrying hedge, or something a little more subdued.  Just ask our experts for advice!
Available varieties include: Box, Green & Copper Beech, Dog Rose, Privet, Hawthorn, Hornbeam, Hazel, Field Maple, Spindle, Dog Rose, Guelder Rose, White Japanese Rose and Shrubby Honeysuckle

Tips on choosing the best hedging plants:

  • Decide on the type of hedge e.g. evergreen, deciduous, flowering, formal or informal
  • Identify any specific requirements, such as height to be achieved and maintained
  • Take into account the soil condition and situation. Choose plants that tolerate such sites
  • Check which hedges grow locally in similar situations and soil conditions
  • Consider the amount of annual maintenance it will need once established. The timing and frequency of pruning depends on the species and the general effect required
  • Native informal or semi-formal hedges will help attract wildlife, providing shelter and food
